Each social media network has its own image dimensions for displaying images and videos across both desktop and mobile devices. Selecting the correct image size for each specific social media network ensures that you post images appear without any white spaces or grey spots. To put this into perspective and to give you an idea of how messy it can potentially look, we’ve pulled a few screenshots from British Airways LinkedIn page:

Using the the correct image sizes within your social media posts which is often overlooked by many businesses, can be the difference between your business coming across as professional or amateurish when marketing across social media channels. So we’ve gone ahead and put together a short blog post to run through the optimal social media image sizes for each social network:

  • Profile Picture: 180 x 180 (Displays 170 x 170 on Desktop)
  • Cover Photo: 820 x 312
  • Facebook link image size: 1200 x 628
  • Facebook image post size: 1200 x 900
  • Facebook highlighted image size: 1200 x 717
  • Facebook event image size: 1920 x 1080
  • Facebook video size: 1280 x 720
  • Maximum Facebook video length: 240 minutes
  • Facebook ad size: 1280 x 628
  • Facebook video ad size: 1280 x 720
  • Facebook Story ad size: 1080 x 1920

  • Profile Photo: 400 x 400 (Displays 200 x 200)
  • Header Photo: 1,500 x 500
  • In-Stream Photo: Minimum 440 x 220 (2:1 Ratio)
  • Minimum Instagram video sizes: 600 x 600 (square), 600 x 315 (landscape), 600 x 750 (portrait)
  • Maximum Instagram video length: 60 seconds
  • Minimum Instagram image ad size: 500 pixels wide

  • Personal Profile Image: 400 x 400 (Recommended)
  • Personal Background Image: 1584 x 396
  • Company Logo Image: 300 x 300
  • Square Logo: 60 x 60
  • Company Cover Image: 1536 x 768 (recommended)
  • Banner Image for Company Pages: 646 x 220 (Minimum)
  • Hero Image: 1128 x 376
  •  Shared Image or Link: 1104 x 736 (Recommended)

Have a fully stocked album of images to post to your social networks can be a challenge, especially if your images are of poor quality. If that is the case, we recommend using a mix of both paid stock images and your own images (where possible) to ensure that your posts are gaining the maximum reach. Many websites offer paid stock images, but we highly recommend ShutterStock for the quality of images and videos they provide.
